The UNICEF Internship Program in Iraq offers qualified university students a unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF’s work under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.
Purpose of the internship:
UNICEFs child protection programme in Iraq focus on strengthening legal, policy and institutional framework and services that prevent and respond to violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect, including conflict related violence. The programme develop evidence to identify appropriate responses to key child protection concerns, including gender-based violence, the needs of children in the justice system, children affected by armed conflict, and children without parental care. Child Protection programme support the government and its partners to strengthen the national child protection system, including Justice for Children. Â The programme coordinate with other UNICEF sectors, particularly education, adolescent development and social protection, as well as other UN agencies to identify opportunities for integrated multi-sector programming that will address the needs of Iraq’s children in a holistic manner.
Under the supervision of Child Protection Specialist/Officer (Field Office), the intern will undertake the following tasks; –
Assist in field level results and implementation monitoring of partnerships that are delivering child protection services, including justice for children, case management, family tracing and reunification, psychosocial support and gender-based violence.
Support monitoring of programme supply as part of end user monitoring including an assessment of progress against the proposed interventions and alert the section of potential shortages and supply needs.
Support technical staff in recording implementation challenges or bottlenecks in the field and upon return provide inputs to contribute to the CP teams efforts to support strategic shifts or amendments to the project being implemented.
Assist to maintain day-to-day liaison with key government officials, National and International NGOs officials to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme.
Monitor and report on the general situation of children within the communities where the displacement and/or communities of return are located.
Facilitate information sharing on monitoring of Child Protection accountabilities/outstanding DCTs for partners in the field and follow up with respective project officers and partners on liquidation.
Assist in documentation of best practices and lessons learned and sharing of these as part of knowledge management.
Duration: 12 weeks (tentatively from June to August 2019)
Be enrolled at a university in Iraq at the undergraduate or graduate level or finished 2nd year and going to 3rd or 4th year of undergraduate level in Social Work, sociology, Law or related field is required.
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required.
Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.

Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others);Â

Familiarity with Child rights, child protection and UNICEFs work will be an added advantage.
