Job Description
SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has started a regional (multi-country) program entitled Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Zambia and Zimbabwe. In close liaison with the two country project teams, SNV will establish a regional knowledge hub in Harare. The hub will have a team led by the Program Manager, that will have finance and knowledge development – cum – communication staff.
SNV is currently looking for a professional for the vacancy of the Knowledge development and Communication expert.
The main responsibilities of this position are as follows:
Coordinate country progress monitoring.
Work proactively with country project teams to identify opportunities for capturing major progress and results, and disseminating information in-country and beyond.
Lead – in close collaboration with the regional program manager – knowledge development (documenting project progress, lessons learned, case studies and youth testimonies and video productions)
Develop and maintain events calendar, ensuring that major events are identified early; supports regional hub management and relevant programme teams to develop and manage messages and information material to ensure the success of major events.
Advise the project on branding and publications policy in close collaboration with SDC Southern Africa
Ensure that all outreach information material to be used by the media is written in a way that concepts and issues can be readily understood by the public;
Prepare regional and national Policy Briefs, and Fact sheets to promote projects’ results and activities
Develop documented knowledge for SADC, national stakeholders ‘platforms, and other external audiences.
PME oversight and support (SNV Global internal system)
Qualifications
The key competencies for the Knowledge Development and Communication expert are:
Excellent team player
High level of interpersonal communication skills
Familiarity with or empathy for gender sensitive youth and youth economic empowerment
Ability to write in an accessible and analytically solid manner
The key qualifications for the Knowledge Development and Communication expert are:
Masters in Communication, Journalism, Social Science, Development Studies or any other related subject.
Minimum 10 years’ experience on communication or knowledge management.
Proven abilities in designing communication plan, managing and implementing communication strategies for development organisations.
Strong abilities on writing in English, transforming technical report to stories for a general audience and capture lessons for technical sharing purpose.
An excellent understanding of the media on a local, regional and national level
A good knowledge of web and print-based marketing materials.
Ability to design communication materials and proficiency in necessary IT/design software (In-design, Photoshop, illustrator etc).
Ability to visualize complex situations, subjects and projects for different set of audience.
Creative, practical and systematic professional.
Evidence of producing knowledge products (publications and other).
Flexibility to handle varied and demanding tasks and ability to balance priorities, thrive under pressure and juggle a multitude of details in a fast-paced environment.
Significant experience in developing and managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives directly delivering change.
Ability to work independently, as well as member of a team, and to be flexible to accommodate the needs of stakeholders.
Ability to lead the assignment and the team with remote supervision.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills both in English.
