The role
Save the Children has committed to an Ambition 2030 for Children— to do whatever it takes to ensure that all children, especially the most deprived, survive, learn and are protected. As a key member of the Regional Leadership team, you will provide leadership, direction and contribute to implementing this ambition for the region through strategic development and delivery of international programming, in humanitarian, development and nexus contexts, in line with the Save the Children’s mandate, strategy and theory of change. This encompasses the full cycle of program design, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning. The Regional PDQ Director will lead and support the development of innovative practices to find new and better approaches to driving progress for children, as well as promote learning and thematic excellence and drive the uptake of our global Common Approaches across all Country offices in the Region.
In consultation with country programmes, the Regional PDQ Director will play a key role in strategic workforce planning for technical expertise at the regional and country level; support program development and integration of Ambition 2030 and more specifically, support the achievement of the strategy 2019-2021.
Additionally, the Regional PDQ Director, in collaboration with the Pan African Advocacy Director, is responsible to ensure that we maximise synergy between our advocacy and programming efforts. This collaboration will ensure that our advocacy draws from and underpins our programming and vice versa
Qualifications
An advanced degree in a relevant field (education, health & nutrition, child protection, child rights governance and child poverty) or cross-thematic areas (gender, adolescents & youth, MHPSS) is considered a plus.
At least 10 years’ experience in a senior role driving humanitarian and development programming in complex environments
Experience and Skills
Extensive experience managing diverse, complex and high performing teams and supporting professional development opportunities for national and regional teams;
Demonstrated professional experience designing and implementing programming within at least one of Save the Children’s thematic areas (education, health & nutrition, child protection, child poverty and child rights governance);
Demonstrated ability to lead and thrive in a matrix management environment, with a proven history of working across multiple functions to deliver results;
Demonstrated experience in program design and research and evidence generation initiatives;
Strong experience in structured program learning approaches, including design and implementation of action research methodologies that can guide programmatic excellence and policy change in humanitarian and development contexts;
Cultural sensitivity, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching;
Demonstrated experience in establishing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders like local NGOs, UN, donors, government and research institutions and ability to build personal networks at field and senior levels
Experience in solving complex issues through analysis, defining a clear way forward and ensuring stakeholder buy in;
Commitment to Save the Children values;
Fluency in written and spoken English & French (preferred)
Contract length: 03 Years
