Brent Council is accepting applications for Love Where You Live (LWYL) Grant Program to provide some support to vulnerable residents in the borough of Brent. Residents, community organizations, and schools can apply for grants to deliver special emergency projects that tackle social isolation or encourage community cohesion without contravening UK Government guidance and measures during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Early Grant Information for NGOs

Brent Council acknowledges the support offered by some residents, community organizations, and schools to the wider community in many neighborhoods and they would like to continue to offer small grants; at this time; to special emergency projects trying to reduce the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on local communities in Brent.

The UK Government announced, “The single most important action they can all take, in fighting coronavirus, is to stay at home in order to protect the NHS and save lives.” Additionally, three new measures were introduced:

Requiring people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes.
Closing certain businesses and venues.
Stopping all gatherings of more than two people in public.

Submit Inspiring Projects that drive Long-term Economic, Social, and Environmental Sustainability

Each applicant can apply for a grant of up to £500 for his or her chosen project.
Applications can be submitted at any time during the year, and are limited to one submission per year, in order to allow support for a wide range of projects across the borough.
What they will fund?

Project equipment and materials;
Food and refreshments;
Promotional materials.
Funding criteria

The project should be a one-off activity with a clear beginning and end.
Projects should fit one of two key themes:
Developing community cohesion and bringing the community together (without the need for physical contact or creating gatherings) – projects which help create a sense of belonging. This could include online projects.
Tackling social isolation – supporting people who have little support or minimal contact with others due to older age, mental/physical disabilities, or who are self-isolating due to Covid – 19.
The project should be based wholly within one of five local areas:
Harlesden (covering Harlesden, Kensal Green and Stonebridge wards).
Kilburn (covering Brondesbury Park, Kilburn, Mapesbury, and Queens Park wards).
Kingsbury & Kenton (covering Barnhill, Fryent, Kenton, and Queensbury wards).
Wembley (covering Alperton, Northwick Park, Preston, Sudbury, Tokyngton, and Wembley Central wards).
Willesden (covering Dollis Hill, Dudden Hill, Welsh Harp and Willesden Green wards).
The amount requested cannot exceed £500. Projects costing more must be match funded.
Local support must be demonstrated through the support of at least 20 local residents through online/electronic evidence.
No more than one application per financial year can be submitted by a group. The activity must be open to everyone in the specified local area.

Grants are available for all residents, community groups, non-for-profit voluntary groups, and schools that have an idea to improve the environment, tackle social isolation, or help to build better community relations.
Applicants must be over the age of 16, living in Brent, and able to demonstrate support from their neighbors for their proposed project. As it is not appropriate to get signatures at this time they will accept emails, copies of texts or Whatsapp group, etc. uploaded.
