The Global Health Journalism Grant Programmes for Germany and France aims to enhance the visibility of global health topics in the national media of each country.

Since the launch of the Global Health Journalism Grant Programmes for Germany (2016) and France (2018), they have funded 65 journalistic projects with around 800,000 euros that brought under-reported global health stories to the attention of audiences in Germany and France.

The EJC will award around 8 – 12 grants worth €15,000 on average for each programme in this last round, looking to advance the coverage of international health, health policy and development issues in German and French media.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants are expected to produce original journalistic pieces in German or French for relevant German or French media outlets, reporting about health issues from developing countries.
  • The freelancers, journalists on staff and newsrooms can equally apply.
  • Grant recipients should be at least 18 years old.
  • There are no citizenship or nationality requirements. As long as applicant can produce original reporting in German and as long as the media they will report for is a relevant media organisation in Germany and/or has a relevant reach in Germany, they may submit a story proposal.
  • This grant does not give awards to already published stories. The grant programme provides funds to enable journalists and media organisations to cover health and health policy related issues and not to receive money for already published work.
