Job Description:

The Strata Control Officer position is responsible for identification of ground conditions with appropriate support recommendation and ensuring compliance to specification for ground control Strategies. This includes the present development ends.

Responsibilities:

Maintaining damage and geotechnical mapping (Adam Tech) to be used in heading rehabilitation,

Identification of areas requiring extra support installed and in the calibration of numerical and empirical modelling.

Ensuring adherence to SHEQ standards.

Quality control of the installed support system, which includes analysing all the information acquired during the pull-resting of roof bolts, grouting and tensioning of the anchors, shotcrete thickness measurements and quality of spraying.

Shotcrete quality checks from the Batch Plant; including investigation on deviations from expected strength measurements.

Trailing new product available in the market with potential for maximum performance at reduced cost.

Ensuring that all Headings scheduled for Support rehabilitation are actioned to the relevant personnel and planned for completions.

Carrying out quality control check of the rehabilitation works

Intrinsic Qualities:

Sound understanding of geotechnical issues pertaining to underground mining

Good understanding of hard-rock

Self-motivated

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to fault find and provide guidance to problem solving

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

BSc Engineering/ BSc Geology/Mathematics/Physics (Hons), B-tech/Bsc in Mining Engineering

Chamber of Mines Strata Control Certificate

Chamber of mines Rock Mechanics papers (advantageous).

Three years in a hard rock underground mining environment

Advanced Computer literacy (MS Office, Map3D, Examined 2D & 3D, J Block and other Geotechnical Software Packages).
