Mining Manager (Iron Ore / Greenfields / Mine Planning / Open pit) – West Africa

Job Description:

My client is currently seeking a Mining Manager for their Greenfields iron ore project in West Africa. The main purpose of the role will be the managing and implementation of the mine plan, with the target of starting production in 9 months. They ideally need someone with extensive Greenfields experience in mining management and engineering in Africa, preferably with Iron Ore experience.

Responsibilities:

Development and implementation of departmental pre-production system drivers and core activities

Establishment of operational readiness systems

Complete tactical (short term planning) after confirming geology and geotechnical parameters

Develop geotechnical, hydrogeology and grade control protocols

Prepare startup execution plan, including development of mining model and digging plan

Manage short term mine planning, scheduling and reporting functions

Co-ordinate and incorporate inputs from various sections in an integrated, optimized and practical production schedule and cost-effective designs

Formulate all long term mine planning functions and ensure an integrated life of mine plan and budget that is as per corporate/ company guidelines

Coordinate and manage Mining Contractor, Mining Drill and Blast disciplines to meet production, HSE, costs, budgeting, inventory control and performance KPI objectives

Prepare and manage annual mining zero base budget and cash flow forecast through chart of accounts and costs

Prepare and present strategic and monthly reports on HSE, AO, production, costs and availability of equipment

Compile reports as required by regulatory bodies

Ensure all major vendors and contractors. Accounts have been appropriately reconciled to accounts

Manage performance management and development program as per AO or similar program

Lead asset optimization program of responsible areas

Training and development of junior staff, including evaluation and mentoring of junior staff

Active input into company’s safety management system

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

BSC Mining Engineering or Equivalent

Mine Managers certificate of competency

Mine survey certificate of competency

Extensive experience as a Mine Manager on Greenfields projects

Experience working on Iron ore projects

JORC reserve estimation and reporting

Extensive Knowledge of mine planning software and ERP packages

Must have experience working in Africa
